The City of Westminster makes up large portion of central London embodying the political and regal hub of the city as well as the aforementioned Soho and West End and the famous retail areas of Oxford, Bond and Regent Street. People traffic is a problem here but you could easily walk around to all of these points of interest avoiding the congested public transport. Walk along Whitehall to sneak a peak at 10 Downing Street (you can never see much) as well as of course the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. Find yourself at Piccadilly Circus, the lit up junction at the centre of everything, and one way follow Regent Street (posh shops) up towards Oxford Circus (not so posh shops) for some shopping. Or follow Shaftesbury Avenue you towards London’s West End, Chinatown and Leicester Square.
